- Tips To Buy The Best Digital Picture Frame
Are you still using the drab ordinary picture frames to showcase your beautiful moments? It’s time for a change. Today, with everything changing into digital, photo frames are no exemption. Yes, today picture frames are going digital too and giving us such a wonderful choice of pictures in a new-age format. A digital picture frame looks almost similar to a small LCD screen that can display pictures (photos) stored in the memory card or in the inbuilt memory of the picture frame. The quality of the image displayed in these photo frames will be simply superb. However, before you opt to buy a digital picture frame, there are several things to be noted.
First things first- The resolution of display
Most of the digital picture frames show the images in high quality. This depends upon the resolution of the picture frame you choose. There are many different resolution options available. However, selecting a digital picture frame with 640×480 resolutions as a minimum will be good. If you have little more cash to spend on these frames, getting one with 800×600 resolutions will present crisp and sharp images. Any digital picture frame below 640×480 res screen will not display images as in the original photo- it will be blurred with very poor quality.
The Storage Space
These digital picture frames store the images in its memory in a digital format (jpeg or bmp). Most of the frames use an inbuilt memory while you can boost up the space using memory cards if you need to store more pictures. The compatibility of the memory cards with the pictures frames has to be taken into account. The picture frame has to support the same memory card that you use for your digital camera.
The Accessories
The digital picture frames are often bundled with certain accessories. AC adapter, interchangeable frames, and USB Cables are some of the common accessories available for the digital picture frames. Make sure that you get these basic accessories along with the frame or else you will have to spend some extra cash for buying them separately. There are many other optional accessories available for the digital photo frame, such as wi-fi connectivity to download images from the web, speakers, headphones, remote controls, alarm clocks and many more.
These are the basic things to look for before you buy a digital photo frame. Digital photo frames are available in almost all the electronics stores. However, buying the electronic goods online will save much of your hard earned money. The price of the picture frames when bought online will be more than 20% less than buying them from a local store.
Keeping your digital picture frame in full display and having a slideshow of your best pictures playing on it could get a more captive audience even at your home! More on Tips To Buy The Best Digital Picture Frame.

- Picking Out A Digital Picture Frame
Digital picture frames have evolved a great deal in recent years and can be a very nice way of displaying pictures. Of course, with so many frames on the market there is significant variation as far as quality, features, and cost. Here are a few things to think about when shopping for a digital picture frame:
The Display
The size of the viewing screen can vary from just a few inches to up to about 19 inches. The bigger the more expensive in most instances. The average of course, is around 7 inches; these are popular because they display the typical 4×6 image readily.
The quality of the image that the frame is able to display is also critical and probably the primary factor to consider. Similar to a television, if a person is unhappy with the quality of the picture, they will never be satisfied with the purchase. More pixels generally means higher resolution but it needs to be kept in mind that more pixels are also needed to maintain picture quality as the size of the display area increases. Thus, although 800×600 pixels is probably the minimum resolution desired on a 7 to 8 inch display, more would be recommended for a larger display.
As with any screen, seeing is believing. Thus, taking the time to view an image on the display is important prior to selecting any given frame. Is the picture clarity and brightness adequate, is color accurate, and is the viewing angle acceptable?
Cost
Obviously, for many individuals it is important to determine how much they wish to spend. The price range for a digital picture frame spans from around $60 to over $1,300.
Features
There are many features to consider, and like most electronics devices, digital picture frames can possess a variety of other functions that can enhance the experience of enjoying photos.
Digital photo frames vary as far as how many photos can be displayed. The majority are now capable of displaying multiple photos via a slide show type set up. Many have on/off timers and others are more sophisticated with motion sensors that power the display on after sensing movement.
Some of the handier photo frames will orient pictures vertically or horizontally so that they are consistently displayed in the appropriate format. Many will also re-size pictures automatically to assure that they fit on the screen to display the full image, while others allow the user to zoom in on an image when desired. Some digital picture frames also allow manipulation of the image via a remote control.
Another convenience feature offered by many frames is one that digital camera users should be accustomed to; the ability to display thumbnails of images to allow the user to sort through photos prior to setting up a slide show. For those who are more artistically inclined, filters are also available on some frames to allow the display of photos as black and white, sepia, or some other tinted presentation.
For a more complete entertainment experience, some digital picture frames allow not only the display of photos, but also accept movie and music files.
The Technical Aspects
Just as when purchasing a DVD player or any type of display device, buyers need to assure that they understand what types of files will be supported and how they will be transferred to the device. JPEG is of course a common format, but perhaps a user will also want TIF or some other type of image to display. Some digital picture frames have more storage than others; a potential user has to assure that a frame can accommodate the larger file sizes if needed.
As indicated above, some digital picture frames will also play movies and audio files so if such features are desired, it is important to be sure the appropriate format is supported.
Many digital picture frames have a slot for a memory card, in which case it is wise to assure that both the picture frame and the digital camera being used to capture images can accept the same format. Certainly, any device that can work with multiple formats is recommended.
Images can also be transferred via USB port, wirelessly, or via Ethernet connection.
A final technical aspect that a first time buyer might want to consider is the power source. Some digital photo frames get their power from wall outlets only. This can be economical as no batteries have to be purchased or replaced, but it does limit where the frame can be displayed. Batteries on the other hand are more versatile. Again, the ideal situation is to select a frame which is able to operate with either AC power or batteries.
Choosing a digital picture frame should not be a complicated process with a list of the right questions to consider. However, the color and design of the frame around the display should not be the sole consideration as the market has grown to be quite diverse as far as quality and functionality. - Wood Vs. Metal Picture Frames
Wood VS. metal picture frames. Framing Solutions for Photographers and Artists
Picture framing kits are one easy way to provide a home for your photographic or other two dimensional artworks. There are many good reasons why you don’t want to simply tack your pictures to the wall, and aesthetics are only one part of it. Without good picture or photography frames, your carefully crafted image will be exposed to the ravages of humidity, airborne pollution and ultraviolet light – with disastrous results. Picture framing kits not only look nice; they help to preserve your work.
What You’ll Need
The great thing about many picture framing kits is that for the most part, you won’t need much in the way of tools other than a good razor or hobby knife (such as an X-Acto™ knife). At a minimum, you’ll need the following framing and matting supplies:
• Framing and matting supplies
• Some type of non-porous barrier material
• Back and window mat material
• Photographic paper adhesive or hinges/photo corners
• Glazing (glass or acrylic)
• The frame proper
What types of ready made picture frames are best? That depends on several issues, namely (A) your budget, (B) the type of photo or painting, (C) the décor of the room in which the artifact is to be displayed, and (D) your own personal preference. Wood picture frames are highly attractive and appropriate for almost any kind of image. They can also be very expensive, and depending on the décor of the room in which the artifact is to be displayed, finding just the right selection among available wood picture frames can be challenging.
Metal picture frames appeal to some people, and in fact can enhance the display of modern art and/or contemporary urban or abstract landscapes. These come in a wide range of prices, and generally may be less expensive than wood picture frames.
Custom Picture Frames
You won’t generally find these included in picture framing kits, since they are indeed “custom made” to order. However, if your painting or photo prints are of non-standard sizes, it may be necessary to order custom picture frames – or create your own. Advanced picture framing kits sometimes include the kinds of tools you’ll need to create your own custom picture frames, but doing this requires a certain amount of skill.
The Cost
Again, there is a lot of variation here; prices on picture framing kits can range from $30 to $150. Again, this depends on the quality and the kinds of materials and tools that are included. A good rule of thumb when shopping for framing and matting supplies is to purchase the best picture framing kits you can afford.
